THE VICTORIA THEATRE"

Great night of variety with Johnnie Casson, Cannon and Ball
One Night Only was a charity variety show in
aid of MacMillan Cancer Support and organised by Coronation Street
actor Tom Hudson. And what a terrific show it was!!
Introduced by chirpy host and compere Dean Winters, singers, dancers
and comedians, together with an illusionist, an impressionist, a
juggler and a fire-eater, kept a packed house entertained for
two-and-a-half hours and raised a lot of money for a very good
cause. And a world record was broken.
Powerful female voices are very much in vogue at the moment and
Coronation Street's Tupele Dorgu,
Emmerdale's Hayley Tamaddon and Lisa T all
projected and characterised their songs well.
Wayne Champagne conducted a jolly singalong with the audience while
Ben Nickless, donning a variety of props, skilfully impersonated a
whole series of pop singers.
Britain's Got Talent provided two contrasting acts – The Cheeky
Monkeys' superb dance routines and Phil Blackmore's astonishing
juggling skills.
Illusionist Martyn James made his glamorous assistants disappear and
rematerialise quite uncannily, while Johnnie Casson had the audience
in stitches, upstaging top-of-the-bill comedians Cannon and Ball.
And the world record?
Officially verified by the Mayor and Mayoress of Calderdale, Conrad
and Hilary Winterburn, we watched Luke Roberts spin 10 yoyos
simultaneously, beating the old record of nine to get his name
included among the Guinness World Records.
